Up-and-over and sectional doors. There are two kinds of garage doors commonly on the market today. Up-and-over models consist of a single panel door that pivots out and up, sliding in a single section along the ceiling of your garage. They are available in a vast number of designs, including some very attractive wood framed varieties that add style and class to any home. Up-and-over models have some disadvantages, such as not being able to operate if objects are placed too close to the door. They do require a significant amount of free space in front of the garage when they are in use. A sectional door is made of four or more horizontal sections, hinged together, and mounted with rollers on tracks so that the door can roll straight up and back. The sectional design allows for the door to take up much less space, since it retracts straight up on the track. They are more generally more expensive, but they don't use up additional garage space and are usually stronger and safer.
